Skyward Seven is a retro-styled action platformer with light puzzle elements and a nostalgic charm. As you climb higher through the levels you’ll face increasingly tough enemies, gather coins to increase your health, and hunt for hidden weapons that boost your attack strength.

Every level contains a locked exit gate that requires a hidden key to unlock, so exploration is essential to your progression.

Can you make it to the top?

  • Search each level for keys to unlock the exit gate and progress upward

  • Find a new weapon in every level

  • Collect 50 coins to increase your max health

  • Engage in periodic cutscenes that reveal bits of story and mystery

  • Talk to helpful (and not so helpful) signs scattered throughout the levels

  • Hack and slash enemies, including evil chickens

  • Face off in an epic final boss fight (good luck)

  • Unlock Speedrun Mode and challenge yourself to beat your best time

  • Full controller support for any controller automatically. No configuration needed! Check the options menu for controls.

This game began from a spark of inspiration after completing Brackeys' Godot Beginner Tutorial video. My initial goal in August 2024 was to create a simple platformer game with 7 levels. Since then I have been working on and off on this project for the better part of a year. The ideas throughout that time piled sky high in the notes app on my phone. After nine months of work this project is finally complete. It's my first completed game after many years of half finished, incomplete game dev projects. Thank you to my friends and family for the support and inspiration throughout the time that I have been working on this hobby project. I hope that anyone who downloads this game enjoys it.

I just tried it with whisky, and I have some suggestions to make the movement feel better:

  • You should check out coyote time and jump buffering. That'll allow the player to jump even if they are off the ground by a few frames.
  • Try setting the jump to trigger when the jump input is "pressed" instead of "just pressed", which would let the player keep jumping without releasing the button

Otherwise, game is great! I've made a much smaller speedrun game before also using brackey's tutorial and those changes really improved the feel of the game for me.

Looks great, are planning on making a macos port?

I just uploaded a macOS version. I don't have a mac to test it on so hopefully it works. Let me know!
